Postponing Tasks at Hand

The postponing muscle is what mentally causes you to leave things for the very last moment. This used to happen to me a lot, but I’ve changed my habits recently.

Let’s look at the following scenerio:

Your at home, and you have to work on a large presentation for tomorrow. You know it will take a long time, but you haven’t exactly planned how long. You go to the kitchen, eat some food, move over to the living room, prop down on the couch, and watch television for a few hours. Then you remember about the presentation, so on your way back to your office, you grab a quick snack. When you finally sit down at the computer, you spend another hour reading emails and surfing the net. You look over at the clock and gasp as you realize what time it is.

Make Money for Free?

This post is for the stay at home moms, teenagers, and college students trying to pay of their debt. I’m only kidding, it’s actually for anyone out there trying to make money online. I’m not talking about millions, but an extra little bit of income on the side to help you pay off those bills.

Running A Blog

Plain and simple, this costs money… What you ask? Hosting can cost up ten dollars a month while a domain will run you an about extra eight each year.

I spend a lot of time surfing the web and I have realized that many people use free services such as blogger.com and wordpress.com to share their thoughts on certain aspects of life.

Should I Buy Typo Domains?

Recently, I’ve been browsing a few sites and many people ask a similar question; should I buy “typo” domains, or not?

Section I: Introduction

For the few of you unfamiliar with the phrase “typo domain,” it is an abbreviation for a typographical error, for example spelling “copmuter” instead of “computer.” Therefore, a “typo domain” is a domain name that will be visited via somebody making a typing error, such as “www.goolge.com” (which is actually, smartly, registered to google).

Dictionary Word Value

When your trying to make a profit from domaining, it is extremely important to know what brings in the money. There are many different factors that persuade buyers to purchase a certain domain name. These include relativeness/keyword similarity to their business or what it specializes in, resell value is higher then what your listing it for, and a bunch of others that go on and on. The main thing to keep in mind however is that the domaining business is really random, and it is very hard to predict what will sell.

Made-Up Words

It has been countlessly said that creativity is the key to success, well in the domaining business that is only partly true. On one side, it does take creativity to find and search for a domain that will sell. However it really matters what your definition of creativity is. The kind that I am talking about, is making up words that are similar to what the purpose of the domain should be. For instance, if all of the good poker domain names with the .COM extension are gone, you could make one up such as Pokerono.

Why are .COM’s so valuable?

There are many domain extensions available in todays market. Whether is is by country, or other unique names, it seems that new ones come out every year. But if you’re actively engaged in the domain market, you know that normal .COM’s are the most valuable.

Why?

Now this is very a good question. What is it about the extension .COM that makes it so special, that sets it apart?

1. The abbreviation (COM) stands for commercial. Most sites these days focus on making money and/or selling a product.

2. One of the oldest top level domains (TLDs), established back in January 1985.

3. Widely used; the internet audience is most familiar with this domain extension.

4. It is expected; when people have heard of a certain company on the radio, television, or another source of communication, they expect to be able to type in that name in their browser, add .COM at the end, and be directed to the site they were intending to find.

5. The majority of .COM extension domain names are gone. To have a good would mean one of either four things: you’ve had it for a while, you’ve payed a hefty price to get it, you got it when it dropped, you got extremely lucky and found one that wasn’t already taken. There is a large demand for good .COM names and therefore they sell for a lot. You could sort of say that its like a diamond, it’s rare and therefore valuable.

Stay tuned, I’ll have a post soon on value in other domain name extensions.

The Secret: Dropped Domains

This is the question that everyone wants to know, or at least anyone trying to make a quick profit off of domains. In a previous post titled Why do people buy domains?, I covered that you either buy domains to sell for profit or establish into sites. I said that if your doing it for profit, the majority of the good domains are registered. In this post I’m going to cover how you get those valuable domains.

What Are Dropped Domains?

Anyone who has ever bought a domain knows that when they buy it, they have bought it for a fixed amount of time (usually 1 year). When that time expires, a few things happen. Either the owner renews it right away, or a whole procedure takes place. The following is how it happens:

The Scoop on Poker

Recently, I’ve gotten into online poker (with play money, of course).

What’s so appealing about Poker?

Ahh…Poker…where should I start? The popularity of Texas Hold’em to most is baffling. Why Hold’em? I have no idea - maybe it’s the room you get for stringing people along, maybe it’s the element of suspense, I’m not sure. Most people consider poker to be a complete waste of time, sort of like Solitaire, yet they wonder why people play them nonetheless. I’m willing to say that in a few years, Poker will have more popularity than NASCAR, golf, soccer, hockey, curling, basketball, and baseball. Wait, what?! Baseball?!? That’s ridiculous. Well, strangely enough, it’s not. In 2000, the prize money for the champion of the “World Series of Poker” Main Event was $1,500,000. The total prize money in the Main Event was 5.12M. Two years ago, the WSOP reached an all-time high, and online gambling went through the roof. There was a slight reduction in 2007, due to a legal document passed making online betting in the US much more difficult. However, that being said, the prize money to the champ in 2007 was 8.25M,

and the total prize money was nearly 60M for the main event. This year, it’s set to be even higher due to the large revival of online poker services.

Has Sony Truly Won?

Yes, it is sadly true. In case you haven’t already heard it in the news, Sony’s Blu-ray has officially beaten Toshiba’s HD DVD. It was announced to the world on February 19, 2008. I am sincerely sorry to those of you who bought HD DVD players and discs. As I stated in an earlier post (Blu-ray vs. HD DVD), the best way to go would have been to just wait it out till there was an official winner. I thought that within a month or so there would be a true winner. It seems that it has happened much more quickly, and that I was a bit inaccurate.

Has a short-term winner truly won long-term?

In my opinion, Sony is not thinking about the future. They are being extremely naive because although the format war for Hi-Def Discs is over, video competition is not. There are a variety of things that not only now, but in the future will make discs in general useless. To better explain my theory, observe the fact the the new MacBook Air no longer has a disc drive. Now although this is just one examply, it is a beginning to what will be the standard in the future.

The Journey Of A New Blog

This (TalkPrice.net) is a blog that my friends and I have started with hopes of it becoming popular. Within a week and a half, we already have about 100 unique views every single day. Blogging is something that we had just found out about a month ago. We have been reading sites like JohnChow.com, ShoeMoney.com, and MixedMarketArts.com, trying to figure out how we could make money through blogging. It is tough really, so much time goes in to it and unless you’re extremely patient, and not much comes back.
