How To Convert Viewers

There are many ways to get traffic these days. Social media sites, paid advertising, self promotion, etc. What many people don’t realize though, is that a large amount of this traffic is useless. This following will explain why:

1. Someone sees your link somewhere.

2. They click it.

3. They look at your site for a few seconds.

4. They leave and continue on with their lives.

Now there are many ways to monitor and build your conversation rate. A conversion rate is of course the percentage of people, who after visiting your site become loyal in any shape or form. Whether they subscribe, visit daily, or promote your site; conversion is what makes a site popular.

Keeping the Viewer

Keep in mind that the average internet user doesn’t have a lot of tolerance. If they find anything wrong with your site, the chances are that they’ll leave. Here are some things that really bug a viewer, and that you should get rid of from your site:

1. Pop-ups and flashy advertisements.

2. An ugly layout.

3. A cluttered website.

4. A complicated design.

5. Crappy content.

6. No real purpose.

7. Sounds fishy.

8. Bad website structure.

9. Not updated/Old news or information.

There are a few more, but if you learn from these and fix your site accordingly, you should see your conversion rate improving.

Tracking Conversion

There are several ways to track track your conversion rate. I’ve listed a few below:

1. Look at your traffic statistics, and see which of your visitors are Self Referring or Bookmarkers. This means that they are loyal, and should be visiting almost daily.

2. If you don’t already have one, get an RSS feed. While my daily traffic is much more then the amount of subscribers I have, it gives you a better idea of how loyal your readers can be. Don’t feel bad if it is a low number, as many people such as myself prefer to visit the website through their browsers.

3. See how many people link to you from their websites. This is a different kind of conversion, and in a blogs case, is mostly dependent on a blogger really loving one article that you wrote. You can check this through Technorati, Google Blogs, or Alexa.

While this does help you turn normal traffic into loyal traffic, the main thing you have to to is have a great product/write great articles. If you have that, conversion should for the most part come. The above will definitely help, but there are many other aspects, some of which are not yet known that also contribute to this.
